Proud heritage – The design of the 45-apartment development draws inspiration from the Dutch architect, Joseph van Melick, who interpreted the pirogue fishing boat and fishing village in architectural form. This is evident in the bungalows and main buildings of the hotel. Today, the architects have captured the authentic village atmosphere and proud heritage of the namesake resort in La Pirogue Residences. The development references Van Melick’s vision with exuberant timber-lined, pitched forms curving elegantly as they taper to the roof’s edge. The result is a welcoming, warm and private space, exuding a high level of texture and materiality.
Indoor-outdoor living – The living areas are large and airy, and high-quality finishes are evident throughout. Passive solar design and a climatically responsive environment are key elements. Large sliding glazed panels are used wherever possible to enable the resident to interact directly with the outdoors. Most of the apartments have cross-ventilation with corner openings and a wide but shallow floor plan. The interior decor echoes the hotel’s boho-chic theme.
